Your 11-Day Georgian Trekking Adventure Itinerary
This is a small group tour designed exclusively for women, limited to just 12 participants for a more intimate, connected experience.
🛬 Day 1 – Arrival in Tbilisi, Georgia
Welcome to the beginning of your 11-day women-only trekking tour of Georgia! Upon arrival at Tbilisi International Airport, you’ll be met with included private transfers to your centrally located hotel.
As flights will arrive throughout the day and into the evening, no official activities are scheduled for today—giving you time to rest or explore the local area at your own pace. I’ll be at the hotel in the afternoon, so if you arrive early, feel free to meet up for a casual welcome and local tips.
⛪ Day 2 – Roads to Reverence: Drive to Kazbegi & Hike to Gergeti Trinity Church.
This morning we journey north along the dramatic Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi/Stepantsminda. We will make scenic stops along the way. First up is the Ananuri Fortress Complex, a historic 17th-century castle overlooking the shimmering Zhinvali Reservoir. We’ll also stop at the colourful Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument, known for its incredible views of the Caucasus Mountains.
After an included lunch we walk to one of Georgia’s most iconic landmarks — the Gergeti Trinity Church, perched dramatically against the backdrop of the towering Caucasus Mountains. The hike is a scenic 7 km round trip. This unforgettable viewpoint is sure to be a highlight of your Georgian adventure. It is simply stunning.
We’ll stay in a rustic, family-run guesthouse and enjoy a home-cooked dinner and a warm welcome as we settle into this mountainous region of Georgian hospitality.
🌈 Day 3 – Chromatic Earth: Hiking Through the Truso Valley
Today we will experience more of the captivating beaty of the Caucasus. We lace up our boots and step into one of the most visually stunning landscapes in Georgia—the magical Truso Valley. This region, tucked deep within the Caucasus, is a kaleidoscope of natural colour and geological wonder.
The trail winds through a valley carpeted in vivid green grasses, punctuated by a wild riot of yellow, pink, and purple alpine flowers. Snow-capped peaks rise in the distance, their white gleam contrasting sharply with the valley floor below.
What makes Truso Valley so uniquely unforgettable are the mineral springs that stain the earth in surreal shades of orange, red, and rust—an otherworldly effect caused by the iron-rich waters bubbling up from the ground. These hues stretch across the valley like nature’s paintbrush strokes, blending into the brilliant blue of Albano Lake.
Fed by an underground stream of carbon dioxide, Albano Lake is not just beautiful to behold—it’s alive. As you approach, you can hear the delicate pop and fizz of gas bubbles breaking the surface, a gentle, otherworldly soundtrack to accompany your hike.
The Zakagori fortress stands guard above the valley, which is also dotted with ancient towers and abandoned villages.
This is a 6 hour hike, with not much difference in elevation, the hike isn’t difficult but is 22kms in length and is very scenic.
This evening we will enjoy another hearty Georgian dinner to replenish our energy reserves.
🚐 Day 4 – Journey to Kutaisi: Monasteries, Memories & Mountains
After a hearty breakfast, we begin our overland journey toward Kutaisi, one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in Europe. Along the way, we make a poignant stop in Gori, the birthplace of Joseph Stalin. Here, we’ll pause for a photo opportunity outside the Stalin Museum, a stark reminder of Georgia’s complex 20th-century history. In Gori we will also have an included lunch break.
When we arrive in Kutaisi, the evening is free to wander the city’s charming streets, sample local delicacies, or sip on a glass of amber-hued qvevri wine, still fermented in the earthenware vessels of tradition. A perfect moment to pause and reflect before the mountains call once again.
🏔️ Day 5 – Into the Heart of Svaneti: Legends, Peaks & Local Flavours
Today, the journey takes us deep into the Caucasus Mountains, toward the legendary region of Svaneti—a place where time seems to stand still. Towering peaks cloaked in snow, dense forests, crystalline lakes, and meadows bursting with wildflowers unfold before us like scenes from an ancient myth. Svaneti is more than a landscape—it’s a living museum of ancient Georgia. Medieval stone towers, weathered villages, and enduring traditions give this remote area an air of mysticism and resilience. Life here moves to a slower rhythm, steeped in peace, nature, and introspection. This is my favourite part of Georgia.
On our journey, we’ll stop in Tskaltubo, a once-thriving Soviet spa town in western Georgia, renowned for its healing mineral waters and natural radon-carbonate springs. Georgia’s rich tradition of therapeutic bathing spans centuries—from the iconic sulfur baths of Tbilisi to the famous Borjomi mineral waters. Tskaltubo, meaning “place of water,” became especially prominent during the Soviet era for its curative properties. Its naturally warm waters (33–35°C) were believed to aid in treating cardiovascular conditions, rheumatism, arthritis, and endocrine disorders, earning them the nickname “Waters of Immortality.”
Under Soviet rule, Tskaltubo was designated a state-run balneotherapy center, where spa resorts and sanatoriums were built to treat medical conditions using mineral baths. Even Joseph Stalin visited regularly, and at its peak, Tskaltubo welcomed up to 125,000 visitors annually from across the USSR.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the spa industry fell into decline and most of the sanatoriums were abandoned
In August 1992 simmering ethnic tensions in the region of Abkhazia exploded into a 13 month war. Tens of thousands were killed and 250,000 were displaced, 50% of the population.
Some of the refugees fleeing the conflict were housed in the old sanitoriums, up to 12,000 people. One of these was my dear friend Sophie. In Georgia this period is known as “the dark but sweet times”. They were horrific times and people had lost so much but there was a fantastic camaraderie and resilience, everyone shared what little they had. Sophie, along with her family remained here for 10 years.
The abandoned sanatoriums are an eerie, hauntingly beautiful sight and the corridors echo with the voices of the past.
However, change is on the horizon. Some of these architectural marvels are being restored by private investors, and new cafes, restaurants, and hotels in Tskaltubo are beginning to revitalize the town. While the buildings may be reborn, the memory of their rich and turbulent history remains deeply etched into the soul of Tskaltub
Dinner will be included at our traditional guesthouse.
As well as the famous Georgian dishes such as Khachapuri and Khinkali, the Svaneti area has it’s own specialties:
Local specialties not to miss in Svaneti:
Kubdari – hearty bread filled with spiced meat
Tashmijabi – buttery mashed potatoes blended with cheese
Svanetian Salt – a sacred spice mix, often gifted as a symbol of protection
This is a day to immerse yourself not only in Georgia’s wild terrain but in the spirit of the mountains themselves.
🧊 Day 6 – Trek to Chalaadi Glacier: Forest Whispers & Frozen Majesty
Chalaadi Glacier, one of the most beautiful hikes in Georgia, is at 1850 metres high and the source of the river Mestia. It is fed by mountain streams. It is in a beautiful setting and is unusual in that it extends down to the forest
Walking towards the glacier is very beautiful. A bridge over the river brings you into the coniferous forest. Huge fir trees rise up into the sky, the sun shimmering through the branches and tantalising glimpses of the mountains behind. Wild flowers provide splashes of colour amongst the greenery.
Afterwards, the next part of the hike is by the side of a raging river fed by the glacial waters. A scramble over the deposited rocks finally brings you to the glacier. A shimmering ice cave glows turquoise, holding within it trapped light, history, and time. The water was truly glacial and a few seconds was all I could bear before it became very painful.
A hike of powerful contrasts—forest calm, river energy, and glacial silence—all converge in this unforgettable experience..
The evening is free to explore and sample some of the local specialities.
🏯 Day 7 – Echoes of the Past: Hiking Among the Watchtowers of Ushguli
Today we journey to Ushguli, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the highest permanently inhabited settlement in Europe, perched at an altitude of 2,200 metres. Composed of four ancient hamlets and guarded by the snow-covered summit of Mt. Shkhara—Georgia’s tallest peak at 5,203 metres—Ushguli feels like a living time capsule.
The landscape is dotted with iconic Svanetian stone towers, centuries-old defensive structures once used to shield families from both avalanche and vendetta. Life here was once governed by clan loyalty, harsh winters, and traditions as rugged as the surrounding peaks.
As we hike through these villages and surrounding pastures, we hear the echoes of ancestral life. The sound of cowbells, the sight of wool drying on balconies, and the quiet dignity of the people—these are the living threads of a history still unfolding.
You have a free evening to try some of the local restaurants and speciality dishes of the area.
🏞️ Day 8 – Sky-High Reflections: A Trek to the Koruldi Lakes
Perched at an altitude of 8,989 feet, the Koruldi Lakes offer one of the most breathtaking hiking experiences in Georgia—and perhaps, anywhere. This trek was truly unforgettable. As I climbed higher, the views opened into a vast panorama, with 360° vistas of snow-capped peaks, rolling valleys, and alpine meadows that seemed to stretch into the heavens.
My friend Sophie, a local Georgian, laughed at the look on my face—she said it was a blend of awe, joy, and pure wonder. And she was right. The emotion was impossible to hide.
The azure blue skies dotted with fluffy white clouds and the majestic mountains are reflected in the waters of the lake. I smiled the whole day. Sophie had carried a bottle of Georgian wine in her backpack the entire way up—because of course she had. We uncorked it beside the lake, raising a toast to the moment. Few things are as perfect as wine, mountains, and the company of those who understand the silence.
Important – In the case of bad weather it is not possible to run the Koruldi lakes trek and we will do an alternative trek instead.
An included traditional dinner will be served at the guesthouse.
🚌 Day 9 – Farewell to the Mountains: The Road Back to Tbilisi
Today marks the beginning of our farewell to the Caucasus. It’s time to leave behind the towering peaks, glacial rivers, and timeless villages, and return to the capital city of Tbilisi.
The drive takes around eight hours, winding through valleys and highlands one last time. We’ll pause at scenic and cultural points along the way, giving us the chance to reflect, stretch, and soak in a few final glimpses of Georgia’s raw beauty.
We wind our way through lush green hills until we reach the Ubisa Monastery, a 9th-century architectural gem. The monastery’s 14th-century frescoes, beautifully preserved, still whisper stories of devotion and artistry from a bygone age.
We will also have a break for an included lunch.
It’s a bittersweet journey. With each passing mile, the landscape shifts from wild majesty to urban charm—but the memories we’ve made on the trails, among ancient towers, and beside icy lakes will linger long after the road ends.
🏛️ Day 10 – Explore Tbilisi’s Old Town: Walking Tour
After breakfast, we begin our walking tour of Tbilisi, Georgia’s vibrant capital. We’ll stop at the 13th-century Metekhi Church, perched high on a cliff with stunning views over the Kura River and the historic Old Town. From there, we’ll take a cable car up to Narikala Fortress, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the city and meet the iconic Mother of Georgia statue — a symbol of Georgian hospitality, with a sword in one hand, to repel enemies and a bowl of wine in the other, to welcome guests.
As we descend into the colourful streets of the Old Town, we’ll pass ornate wooden balconies, the domed Abanotubani sulfur baths, and quirky landmarks like the Leaning Clock Tower and the Tamada Statue, honouring Georgia’s toastmasters and festive traditions. Tbilisi blends ancient architecture, modern charm, and artistic flair with lots of quirkiness.
The afternoon is free to explore more of Tbilisi, buy souvenirs or maybe take a sulfur bath with a soap suds massage.
✈️ Day 11 – Departure Day
Today we say our goodbyes. Transfers to the airport are included and will be arranged based on individual flight times.
We hope you leave with a full heart, tired legs and unforgettable memories of Georgia’s unbelievable beauty, food, wine, and warm hospitality.
